'Echo' is a short directed by Lewis Arnold in 2011. It tells the story of a 17 year old girl, Caroline, who is trying to deal with the death of her Dad. The film is based on true events so by using unaware, real people helps to add to the realism in it. As well, the use of bleak, cold colours like grey helps to add to the overall depressing aesthetic. This is a technique I have tried to incorporate in my short. The cinematography and sound work well together in certain shorts to draw emphasis on Caroline's emotions; for example there may be a close up of her face whilst the background noise dies out, this is drawing our emotions specifically towards Caroline.

Throughout, the boy is trying to construct his own version of masculinity, which is a topic that pervades throughout the film. The camera is mainly placed with the boy, showing his own journey. By doing this, the audience is forced to acknowledge the main topic of this film.

'Over' is a short by Jorn Threlfall, made in 2015. It uses reverse chronological storytelling in order to reveal the incidents that caused a crime scene. The use of diagetic sounds and no dialogue keeps the audience intrigued in whats happening, and it also keeps the audience take part in unravelling the story. The use of only using static shots, too, helps the audience try unravel what happened themselves. The use of long lasting shots with wide shots creates a lot of tension too as it makes the audience expect something to happen, however it does also make the narrative slow to develop.
